Well, now that the great state of Michigan has finally decided to follow her own laws and, oh…I don’t know…write a budget instead of coming up with creative ways to send us into anarchy and mayhem, I can concentrate my energies on thinking about ridiculous-crazy people with a panache for entertainment. Yes, folks, it’s Morbid Moron Monday.
Today’s morons are Erin McLean, age 30 and her (l)awfully wedded husband, Eric McLean. Erin, was a school teacher at West High School in Knoxville, Tennesee. During her teaching stint there, she met and “fell in love with” then 17 year old Sean Powell. The time frame was Fall 2006 when all this took place. Then, Sean quit school and moved to Nashville to live with his mom, out of the blue.
On March 10, 2007, Erin decided to send Sean a text message. It said, simply “Come home, baby. I love you. You are beautiful.” At that point, Sean does indeed go home. He went to the home of Erin and Eric McLean.
The details that followed here are a little murky through my research. No one seems to know the exact details, other than that Eric McLean dialed 911 to report an intruder and seven minutes later Erin called to report that her husband had shot and killed Sean Powell, then age 18. Later reports show that Sean was sitting inside a car outside the McLean residence when shot and killed. Police found Eric McLean hours later on the other side of town, walking along the railroad tracks, carrying the murder weapon – a shotgun.
On March 19, 2007, Eric McLean was charged with 1st degree murder.
Now, fast forward to the 21st of September. Erin has custody of her kids. She has not been charged with a crime. She’s been in mental institutions twice since all this happened. Her kids were staying with her mom, so she could “deal”, that is until Mom woke up on the morning of September 21st to find that the children were missing and their lovely mother with mental issues was no where to be found. Erin’s mother called 911, and reported the threesome missing.
Erin McLean’s attorney, Gary Blackburn said that on the 24th he received an email from Erin, and he wrote her back, requesting that she contact him by phone. Apparently she did, and she and the children are fine.
But, the story doesn’t end here.
Erin McLean somehow weaseled her way back into a Nashville classroom to teach again after this incident. See, previously, when she met Sean Powell, he was 17 years old. Sean admitted to his mother that he was having an affair with this teacher. Erin McLean would have us believe that she minded her P’s and Q’s until Sean turned 18, but the prosecution will prove at Eric’s trial for killing Sean, that in fact the relationship began while Sean was still her student, and while he was 17 years of age. Regardless of the cookie cutter you use here, she broke the law. She got involved with an underage STUDENT, and had illegal relations with him.
And, likewise, after his life was snuffed out by her husband, she just uprooted her life, moved to Nashville and started the game all over. She applied at a Nashville High School, using her maiden name. Within a few weeks of teaching, she was dismissed because of improper conduct.
With one male student, she drew hearts on his homework before turning it back in to him. Apparently, chick didn’t learn her lesson.
Her attorney is quoted as saying “My client is having a hard time finding work.” Well…ya think? Whoever hired her at the Nashville High School should be fired for lack of a background check for teaching staff. That shouldn’t have happened, and the state of Tennesee should be revoking her teaching license.
This Morbid Moron should be charged with a crime. Several, actually. And, she certainly shouldn’t have custody of her children. She has no remorse and within months of one student lover being killed, she is seeking another? Yes, I think they may want to start paying attention to what’s going on in this girl’s world before she lures more lambs in for slaughter.
Eric McLean’s trial is set to begin on January 21st, 2008.
